Keto Country Fried Steak

Sometimes you just want real comfort food. You know what I’m talking about. There are times that you just have to have a greasy, fried dinner to satisfy that craving, and nothing else will do.

Fortunately, there are several Keto swaps for some good comfort food that taste just as good, if not better, than their Standard American Diet name-sakes. And my Keto Country Fried Steaks are a perfect example of just that!

All you really have to swap out are the flour breading and the vegetable oil used to fry it up. Super simple swaps! I’m telling you, this recipe is just as good with the swaps!

We have venison cube steak in the freezer, so that’s what I used. Regular cube steak is just as good.

Before cooking the venison cube steaks, it’s a good idea to soak them for a few hours in some heavy whipping cream or half & half to tenderize them a bit. I let them sit uncovered in the fridge for just under four hours, but even just two hours will make a difference.

When you’re ready to start cooking, heat up a good quality oil in a high-walled pan or dutch oven to help reduce the oil splatter. I used refined coconut oil because it does not have the coconut flavor, but tallow or lard are also excellent options.

The best breading for cube steak is crushed pork rinds. I used my Blendtec to pulse whole pork rinds into crumbs in about five seconds. You can crush them in a ziploc with a rolling pin or the bottom of a pan as well, but it will take longer and the pieces will be larger.

Place your pork rind crumbs in a bowl or on a plate and mix in garlic and onion powders. In a separate shallow dish, whisk together eggs and heavy whipping cream.

Now you’re ready to start frying. Dip each cube steak into the egg mixture and coat both sides. Then dip it into the pork rinds. (It’s okay if there is not a solid layer of pork rinds on the steak.)

Place each cube steak into the hot oil. Don’t overcrowd the pan so that they’re able to cook evenly. About three minutes on each side should be good.

So easy! You can even make a Keto gravy to enjoy with your country fried steak. Add some heavy whipping cream, salt and pan drippings from the steak to a pan and bring to a boil. Once it boils, lower the heat and let it simmer until it thickens up. Then just pour on top of your country fried steak and you’ve got yourself one delicious, Keto-friendly and satisfying comfort-food dinner.
