This Saturday, May 11th, is the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive by the USPS. It happens on the second Saturday of May each year and is a wonderful opportunity to easily donate non-perishable food items to local pantries.
All you have to do is leave non-perishable and non-expired food item next to your mailbox before your carrier delivers the mail. They will take care of the rest. The food will be collected and then sorted and distributed to local food pantries. Then the food pantries will distribute everything as needed. So easy!
The top requested non-perishable food items are cereal, pasta, spaghetti sauce, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, canned tuna/chicken/turkey and beans. You can also donate unopened baby food or formula.
If you have a mailbox that is not a great spot to leave food, you could leave a not for your mail carrier to pick up your donation at another spot, like your porch or hanging on a gate post.
